Hey guys! It’s Coach Aleyah with another blog post. I know some of you are taking classes, may have recently finished a class, or are preparing for classes coming up. So, this week, I’m going to be giving you some study tips and tricks that will work for students of all ages, whether you’re just starting middle school or just starting college.

Tip #1: Take notes. The first step to studying is to take notes for the classes you are in. Most teachers will have a presentation that they go through in class, and some will post it on the class’s website or page. This is good so you can go back and add to your notes if you missed something in class, or add more details. Just make sure that you’re notes are neat, and have all of the necessary information.

Tip #2: Review your notes. After you have notes for what you are currently learning in each of your classes, it’s time to review your notes. You can do this by rereading your notes, but not just reading; reread your notes actively, making sure you understand the content. If you come across something you don’t understand, write the question down, and ask your teacher. You can also get an academic coach to help you with your studying!

Tip #3: Make flash cards. After you review your notes, and understand the information in the notes, it’s time to make flashcards. You can use index cards, or Quizlet, which allows you to make electronic flashcards, and do different activities to practice with them.

Tip #4: Plan time to review your flash cards, and review them! Once you have your flashcards made, it’s time to plan when you want to review your flashcards. It doesn’t have to be long; it can be approximately 15-20 minutes a day, or every other day, for each class. Remember to follow through with your plan and review your flashcards.

Tip #5: Prepare for your test, and repeat the process! If you have an upcoming test for a class, once you have all your notes taken for the content that will be on the test, your study process, starting with Tip #2, should start two or three weeks before the test. If your teacher allows you to use an index card with information on it for the test, use your flashcards to write information on it! Start with the more challenging information, so you make sure that information is on the index card.

I hope that these five study tips help you. If you need more help with studying or your study process, you can schedule an academic coaching session with us, or consider signing up for a membership plan with us! See you next week. ~ Coach Aleyah
