Note-Taking Tips & Tricks
Hey guys! It’s Coach Aleyah back with another blog post. This week I’ll be giving you guys some tips and tricks for taking notes in your classes, that can be helpful to students of all ages!
Tip #1: Get a pronged folder for each of your classes. For each class that you have, a pronged folder is a good option for organization and note-taking. You have two pockets for any papers or handouts that you receive from your teachers, and prongs to add paper for taking notes.
Tip #2: Fill each of your pronged folders with notebook paper. After you get your pronged folders, get some notebook paper, and fill each folder’s prongs with some notebook paper! The good thing is that you can add more when you need it, and move some to other folders if needed.
Tip #3: Get writing utensils that you would like to use to take notes. Now that you have your folders filled with notebook paper, it’s time to pick the writing utensils that you want to use for taking notes. This can be pencils, pens, or whatever you would prefer to use.
Tip #4: Take notes for your classes using the Cornell Notes method. Once you have your folders with notebook paper, and your writing utensils, now you can actually start taking notes! A good method for taking notes is the Cornell notes method, where you have one small column for a word, topic, or term, a big column in the middle for definitions or descriptions, and a small column at the end for any additional notes.
Tip #5: Review your notes, and put them in another format. The last thing for you to do after taking notes for each class is to review them, making sure you understand the content, and put your notes into another format. This can be flashcards using index cards if you have formulas or mathematical equations you need to memorize, or Quizlet if you have vocabulary words or definitions that you need to know. You can use whatever works for you!
I hope these note-taking tips help you in your classes! If you need help with note-taking, or understanding the content in your classes, feel free to try a 14-day free trial, and schedule an academic coaching session with us. Until next week! ~ Coach Aleyah
